Like most things in 2020, we saw the cancelation of the 2020 Lutsen 99er due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Lutsen 99er team has been closely watching for updates from Governor Tim Walz, the CDC, and other entities to see if it will be possible to hold the North Shore’s most popular bike race. Well, good news, we’ve got a 2021 Lutsen 99er Update: It’s On!
This year’s race will be held on Saturday, June 26! The event will follow all COVID-19 guidelines issued by the Governor and LifeTime Fitness. The race will start and end at Lutsen Mountains, as it has in previous years. Racers will find themselves on challenging courses weaving through the beautiful Northwoods of Minnesota. The 19er (now the 25er), 49er, and 69er races are also on this year!
However, there were limited spots available and they went very quickly. Yes, the race is already SOLD OUT! Because of the cancelation in 2020 riders who were already registered for that race were given the chance to carry over their registration. Most chose to carry over. However, if you have a kid wanting to dip their toes into the mountain bike racing series, the Niner Kids Race is still open for registration. Spectators should also make plans soon as lodging options will be limited for the weekend. There are also volunteer opportunities if you’d be interested, please reach out to the race organizers for more information.
You can learn more about the Lutsen 99er in our Events post. Note that some information may not pertain to this year’s adjusted race. You can get more updates on the 2021 Lutsen 99er, including spectator rules and race routes, on the Official 99er Website.
And that’s it for your 2021 Lutsen 99er Update… at least until June. Because we here at Cascade Vacation Rentals, the headquarters for the 99er, are ecstatic that the race can safely continue in 2021.
