Re-Live Your North Shore Vacations With a Photo Contest!
Recently, the Getty Museum challenged art lovers to dig into the Getty’s online collections, and re-create a piece of artwork with just the materials they found at home. The results were posted on their Facebook Page, and didn’t disappoint! This got us wondering if there was a way we could incorporate this creative idea into something for Lake Superior’s North Shore. So, we have come up with a little fun, at-home North Shore photo challenge inspired by the Getty Museum artwork challenge…
Our North Shore twist takes a slightly different spin on the Getty Museum’s challenge. Instead of re-creating works of art, we’d love to see you and your family do one (or all!) of these three challenges. It’s a fun, easy way to experience the North Shore from the comfort of your own living room. Plus, two entries will be rewarded (read on to find out how!).
1) Re-create a famous North Shore landmark. It can be anything from your favorite waterfall to a statue like Rocky Taconite or Pierre the Voyageur to a favorite building or landmark. Use whatever you have in your house at this moment- it can be anything! Food, recycling, blankets, knickknacks… you name it!
2) Re-create your favorite family or individual photo from a past North Shore vacation. Either duplicate the pose today (would be fun if the photo was taken many years ago) or even try to go as far as to somehow re-create the background in the photo! We’d love to hear the story behind the photo, too.
3) Never visited the North Shore? Don’t worry, I wouldn’t want to leave you out! Re-create your favorite family photo or childhood photo of yourself. We’d love to see those, too! Share the story of the photo and why you chose it.
Share Your Masterpiece
Then, once you’ve completed your masterpiece, you can post it on our Facebook Page, or post it on your own Facebook Page or Instagram Account and tag us! Thanks to the Big Bosses here at CVR, we want to reward two of the entries! One entry will be “CVRs Choice”, the favorite submission of the staff. The second prize will be awarded based on a random drawing of everyone who submits. Each winner will receive a $25 gift card to either The Big Lake or Gunflint Mercantile (we have one for each). Both gift cards are to a business with an online store so you do not have to come up here to redeem it right away. To enter, you must submit your masterpiece between April 8th, 2020 at 8:00 am and April 22nd, 2020 at 11:59 pm. You can submit as many entries as you’d like, but are only eligible to win one prize. Multiple entries will increase your odds of winning. CVR staff will review all Facebook, Instagram, and emailed submissions and vote on a favorite. The rest of the submissions will be randomly drawn out of a hat and announced during on Facebook Live on Friday, April 24th. Winners will be notified via their entry method (Facebook, Instagram, or email). Gift cards will be mailed or sent digitally. Additional terms and conditions can be found by clicking This Link.
Come back here to see the submissions to the challenge once we’ve received them!
And Now, The Best Thing I’ve Seen All Week
This is going to be a new section to the blog during the duration of our time apart. Check here every week to see what I’ve scoured the internet for all week- some good news, something uplifting, a good idea, or a sweet deal. It might be North Shore related, it might not be.
This week, I was impressed, inspired, and left feeling a positive jolt of energy by episode 2 of “Some Good News with John Krasinski”. I almost don’t even want to spoil it, but let’s just say the entire episode is good, but things get really great around 8 minutes and 45 seconds in.
First of all, the show is full of upbeat and uplifting stories being told from around the world. And I think we can all use a little of that, right? But the big story in this episode is that of Aubrey, a young girl who had her family trip to see the musical Hamilton canceled. What John Krasinski and a few specials guests were able to pull off and present to Aubrey is incredible. I won’t say any more. Just watch!
If you come across something you think deserves a spot in this section, please email me at [email protected] so I can add it to this section and share something positive with everyone.
Have fun re-living your North Shore vacation. And, until we meet again: stay healthy, stay safe, stay home. We miss you!
