About Hovland Hideaway

Hovland Hideaway is a beautiful, dog-friendly, tech-savvy, slice of the North Shore. Lake Superior is right outside the door and the long, private beach has everything you could possibly want, ledge rock, cobblestones, and sand. It’s a tranquil spot to relax and enjoy. If you need to have a work meeting, the cabin offers high-speed fiber optic cable and a WiFi extender so you can take your meeting on the beach. Hours can be spent rock hunting, walking on the beach, watching the waves, ravens, eagles, otters, and enjoying the beauty of the north shore. The bonfires are magical; sitting under the moon and a blanket of stars, listening to the crackle of the campfire (conditions permitting) and the sound of the waves. No matter the mood of Lake Superior, crashing waves or smooth as glass, it is mesmerizing.

The cabin itself is charming with views of the lake from just about every room. It offers all the comforts of home, with much better views. The living and dining room overlook the lake and the gas fireplace is perfect for cool evenings. There is a full collection of games and movies for family fun. 

The master bedroom has a queen bed with a Tempur-pedic mattress topper for extra comfort. Upstairs are two more bedrooms and a delightful sunroom with beautiful views overlooking the lake. It is a quiet spot to relax with a favorite beverage or make your co-workers green with envy on that Zoom call. 

The cabin sits on 2 acres, the open spacious yard is perfect for barbecuing and yard games. Beach chairs are provided in the storage shed so you can sit in comfort by the water. The adventurous types can fire up the sauna and run into the lake to cool off. Water shoes or sandals are recommended.

Dogs are awesome and they are welcome at Hovland Hideaway. For a small fee you may bring a maximum of 2 dogs. No other pets are permitted. The new and exotic smells on the beach keep them completely entertained.

Hovland Hideaway is a photographer’s dream. Just point your camera and the odds are good you will have a frame-worthy photo. If you are lucky you may see the northern lights at the left end of the beach. Tip - look through your phone camera to see all the colors. Usually your naked eye will only see a whitish glow but your camera will pick up the greens and reds.

Hovland Hideaway is a wonderful, relaxing place that will draw you back again and again. 

Please note: The sauna is in a separate building. Also, this cabin has a 7-night minimum.

Area Information

Head down the shore and just a few miles away you will find the Judge C.R. Magney State Park and the infamous Devil's Kettle waterfall. Stop by the restaurant at Naniboujou for a full meal or afternoon tea. Or head up the shore just a few miles to the Grand Portage Reservation where you will find the Grand Portage National Monument and the Grand Portage Lodge and Casino, with a full-service restaurant.
