Golfing on the north shore

There are many activities to do outdoors on the North Shore, a favorite of many is golf. When golfing on the North Shore you have many options of where to go. If golfing is your ideal activity check out these golf courses.

Superior National at Lutsen Golf Course

Few Golf Courses have been built on land as spectacular as Superior National. And more recently, the golf course just completed its nearly $4.6 million course improvement project on the River and Canyon 9’s.

The River and Canyon 18 make up the newly renovated “Premier 18” hole golf course while the Mountain 9 compliments this 27 hole venue while also offering FootGolf – welcoming families and groups looking for an alternative fun outdoor recreation activity.

The River 9 features the Poplar River as it winds its way down the mountainside through the course as it makes its final journey to Lake Superior.  The Canyon course features canyons and cauldrons cut by the mighty Poplar River while Lake Superior serves as her backdrop.  The new renovations includes five sets of tees, Ohio’s Best white sand bunkers, wider fairways, environmentally-friendly irrigation and drainage and new and larger greens.  Accentuating challenging elevation changes, creating seamless transitions, and developing a course that offers a challenging yet enjoyable experience for all skill levels were priority in the design.  Even the non-golfer in your life will want to tag along to enjoy the scenery.

After you have booked with Cascade Vacation Rentals – check out the Superior National at Lutsen website and their Facebook page for more information.  Through their website, you can book your tee time online that fits with your vacation schedule.

Surrounded by heavily forested hills, and laid out across the east branch of the Beaver River, the golf course offers both natural beauty as well as a fair challenge to the golfers that visit. Additional seating can be found on the porch area attached to the dining room.  The porch area can also be rented individually for smaller, private groups of 40 or less.

Lakeview National Golf Course

The Lakeview National Golf Course is a challenging 18 hole championship course and is one of the most beautiful recreational sites on the North Shore. Designed by Garret Gill, the course was renovated in 1996-1997 with all new tees and the expansion to 18 holes. You will soon discover why it was named “Lakeview”.

You can take advantage of views of the majestic Lake Superior from 14 of the 18 well-groomed and maintained fairways and tees along with the occasional wandering wildlife that will add to your golfing experience. The course offers large tees and greens which accommodate players of all abilities.

At 3,182 and 3,189 yards, respectively, the par-36, “Front 9” and “Back 9” courses present golfers with generous fairways, exciting elevation changes and gently undulating greens.

Built in 1927 near the historic Enger Park Tower, the 27-hole course features three, distinct parkland-, links- and traditional-style layouts.

Ranging from 3,168 to 3,359 yards, the par-36, “Front 9,” “Middle 9” and “Back 9” presents golfers with distinct experiences as several holes run through densely wooded areas while others navigate around scenic ponds and strategic bunkers.
